Hedgerow Press is the creative practice of Somerset-based artist and environmental educator Freya Betony, bringing together printmaking, ecology and a long-standing fascination with the natural world.
My work explores relationships between plants, people and place through printmaking, ecological fieldwork and participatory workshops. I’m particularly interested in the everyday wild- the hedgerows, waysides and overlooked plants that surround us, and in how making can become a way of looking more closely.
I studied Fine Art at Central St Martins and later completed an MA in Art and Ecology at Falmouth University. Alongside my own creative practice, I have worked extensively in environmental education and community engagement, including roles with Somerset Wildlife Trust, Avon Wildlife Trust, the RSPB and the Eden Project, as well as community arts and education projects. I have also worked as a Forest School leader and am currently completing further training in field ecology.
Hedgerow Press brings these different strands together: a place for making prints, investigating the natural world, sharing skills and paying closer attention to the interconnected web of life of which we are a part.
